Aftermath: The Hangouts 7" Record Release

On Friday, we headed to Bryan to check out The Hangouts, Something Fierce, and The Wrong Ones at The Hangouts' record release.

The Wrong Ones started things off the right way. This band describes itself as "70's chainsaw guitar punk rawk," and while I admit that I am not entirely sure what that is supposed to sound like, I think it is probably accurate. The band had an interesting cast of characters - with, you know, charisma. The singer moved around and hopped up on the bar while singing. I really enjoy singers that don't just stand there. Unfortunately, we didn't get a photo of The Wrong Ones in action, but you can feast your eyes on 'em on Facebook by clicking here: Click this, suckers! You can also catch some of the members in the photos of the other bands at our new Facebook page here.

Next up was Something Fierce. Though they were suffering from sleep deprivation (they had been on tour for a few weeks), they put on a hell of a show. People danced and even got a little rowdy. Because we were good, they graced us with a bonus song at the end of their set: "Come for the Bastards." Yay! Their new stuff is excellent, but I am a sucker for the oldies.

Last and certainly not least, The Hangouts hung out like never before. I would like to point out that these are some of the raddest people - nice as can be! Niki Pistols is outright adorable:

Anyway, they put on a damn fine show. As usual, many sweaty boys and men ended up shirtless:

If you have never seen these bands in action, I suggest you do so. You can check them out at the 4th annual Loud!Fest, as a matter of fact!

Texas Crawfish & Music Fest (Spring, TX)

This will be the 25th annual Texas Crawfish & Music Festival in Old Town Spring. The event takes place on two weekends: May 13-15 & May 20-22.

If you buy your ticket online, it only costs $8 for one day. At the gate, tickets are $12. Kids under 12 get in free. Also: Free entry with military ID (active or inactive).

If you're not into crawfish (I'm certainly not!), there's still stuff for you to do here. They will have carnival rides, games, vendors, and live music each day. For a list of musicians playing the festival, click here. I hear that Lit will also be there, but it isn't on the website yet. There is a Facebook event page here, though.

For more information or to buy discount tickets, go to their website: http://www.texascrawfishfestival.com

*Update (4/27)*

The music schedule is now up, and it includes everything from Lit to Come See My Dead Person to Ray Wylie Hubbard - and also karaoke contests! You now have no excuse not to GTFO and check out the TX Crawfish Fest!

The Hangouts 7" Record Release (Bryan, TX)

This Friday (4/22), get your lazy asses over to Revolution for this show. The Hangouts are having a record release of radness. The record will only cost $4 at the show, and it comes in more than one color! Also: If you don't have a record player, don't worry! It comes with a download card.

Also playing: Something Fierce and The Wrong Ones!

The bands start at 10p, so you have plenty of time to get there after work - and maybe even after a nap. No excuses!

Loud!Fest 4 (Bryan, TX)

Hey, people. This will be year number four for Loud!Fest, a music festival in downtown Bryan. The festival takes place at The Stafford and Revolution, and it is well worth the $5 it costs (wristband good for both nights!).

There will be 30+ bands at this thing, including The Hangouts, The Ex-Optimists, Something Fierce, The Busy Kids, Muhammadali, & Satin Hooks. For a complete list, see the event page here: Click me!

Bryan is only about 45 minutes from Huntsville, so you won't spend much on gas. Another good reason to go: I will be there! So mark your calendar. This event starts on Friday, May 20, so it is one month from today! I will post a reminder when we are closer.

You can also keep up with local B/CS music happenings by reading 979 Represent, a blog & magazine created and edited by local musicians.
