Conroe Hastings In-Store Book Signing with Ozzy Osbourne in October!

Hastings In-Store Book
Signing with Ozzy Osbourne!
Book: Trust Me, I'm Dr. Ozzy
Conroe Hastings
Tuesday, October 18th at 7pm

The "Other Half" of Hey, Huntsville, was once convinced for a good FIVE minutes that Stephen King was having a book signing at the Huntsville Hastings (Sucker). However, THIS celebrity book signing is no joke! It’s Facebook Official HERE.

On Tuesday, October 18th, hop on that crazy train and head down to the Conroe Hastings, because Ozzy Osbourne will be there for a book signing!

According to the description of the new book, Trust Me, I’m Dr. Ozzy, is “part humor, part memoir, and part bad advice” and “will include some of the best material from his published columns, answers to celebrities' medical questions, charts, sidebars, and more.”
Buy a copy after it comes out on October 11th, and get Dr. Osbourne to sign it at the Hastings Conroe a week later. Please leave your bats and doves at home.

I can’t wait!

Also, HERE is a good interview of Ozzy discussing the dove/bat/Alamo controversies.

Underdogs Film Festival: August 12 - August 14th

August 12-14th
Fourth Floor Artists
Collective at Francisco Studios (EADO)
Francisco Studios
300 McKinney St.
Houston, TX
We previously reported some of this information when we wrote about the Underdogs.com submission deadline to submit short films, music videos, and feature films for this movie festival. Now, it is almost time to WATCH those submissions! The Underdogs Film Festival is THIS weekend. Ticket information can be found HERE.
We will be there taking pictures, watching movies, meeting filmmakers, and eating cheese cubes. It's going to be a FUN weekend!
I've watched some of the movies that will be shown this weekend. My favorite, from what I have already seen, is Gary C. Warren's Best Laid Schemes. I'm a fan of raunchy comedies and overly complicated revenge schemes, and that is basically how I would describe the plot of this film. Very funny movie!
He and his lady love, Sharon wright, can also be seen starring in their online show, For Worse. Click HERE to watch it on YouTube! It feaures some very good acting, because I'm pretty sure they have more fondness for each other in real life than what you see in For Worse! Sharon Wright is also the star of the short film, Tell Me That You Love Me, which is also an official selection of the Underdogs Film Festival. I haven't seen that entry yet, but I am looking forward to it.
There are tons of other feature films and short films that can be seen in this festival, including several Twitchy Dolphin Flixs. Click HERE for the full list of entries!
Also, keep a lookout for THIS guy! He is the one mostly responsible for organizing this event:
(Carlo Rodriguez holding a fancy Action on Films Award)
Info from previous article:
Huntsville’s very own film distribution company, Underdogs.com (also associated with Gothic Films), is busy again with planning a brand new film festival! Last year, they organized The City of Death Film Festival and this year they have already held the 2011 Aphrodite Cinfest International Film Festival. Now, they are moving BEYOND Huntsville and are busy organizing a film festival in Houston, TX! We are very excited about this film festival and definitely plan on being there!
According to their website, the Underdogs Film Festival has two purposes: "First, the festival is intended to introduce audiences to quality independent films from talented filmmakers that don't have the marketing advantages of big Hollywood studios. Second, the festival is an opportunity for UnderDogs.com to discover films that are ready for commercial release, but lack a means of distribution to wide audiences."
If you are a fan of film, and especially independent film, then this is a great opportunity to mingle with filmmakers, meet interesting people, and see some very promising films!

Upcoming Rosenwall Shows: August 13th and August 14th

Local band Rosenwall is going to be a very busy this weekend! They have two upcoming shows on both Friday and Saturday!

Friday: This Friday, August 13th, Rosenwall will be performing at Porky’s in Willis, Texas. Click HERE to see their Facebook page.
Address:  10925 FM 1097 W Willis, TX 77378
Don’t confuse this Porky’s with the one in Cut-N-Shoot. We had the opportunity to visit THAT Porky’s bar last weekend for karaoke with TNT Entertainment, and we had a blast! Rest assured, we were neither “cut” nor “shot” at, although we probably would have deserved it with our awesomely awful dance moves.  Also, bikers have the best pick-up lines (“Hey, your purple dress matches my bike. Wanna go check it out?”), and TNT Entertainment is a very entertaining karaoke group. If you ever find yourself traveling near Cut-N-Shoot on a Saturday night, then you should go check them out! The only thing that I didn’t like about the place was how smoky it is inside. You can see pictures of our trip to Porky’s in Cut-N-Shoot on our Hey, Huntsville Facebook page!

Saturday: On Saturday, August 14th, Rosenwall will be performing in Conroe at Papa’s on the Lake. Click HERE to see their website.
Papa’s features live music on what looks like a weekly basis according to their website schedule, and they also feature food, pool tables, video games, volleyball, and indoor and outdoor deck seating. I’ve never been there so I can’t confirm that this place is as cool as it sounds, but if you are a Rosenwall fan, this Saturday might be a good time to check it out! You can take your car, hog, or boat! I’m not sure when Rosenwall will be going on, because I think there is more than one band performing that night since Right to Refuse is the band listed on the website, but live music starts at 8pm and lasts until midnight.

El Roy Icehouse (Trinity, TX)

I recently discovered a rad little ice house close enough to Huntsville to drive to without whining about who's paying for the gas but far out enough for you to think you've traveled far, far away. El Roy Icehouse is located at the old Bell's Camp Marina. For those of you familiar with the old Bell's Camp... well... forget what you know or have heard. There's a new sheriff in town.
Photo stolen from El Roy Icehouse's Facebook page!
El Roy Icehouse, in a roundabout way named after the dude that, way back when, started it all, has a new proprietor: Matt. I traveled to El Roy a couple days ago to find that Matt was not the sort of person you would think you'd find in the middle of nowhere in rural Texas. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and one rad dude. I enjoyed talking with him about all sorts of things I do and things I probably don't remember talking about. He has also done a lot of work to the building itself, including adding some eclectic decor, and he is doing a damn fine job.

There is surprisingly a lot of space inside the bar. It has two main rooms, some very clean restrooms, and an outside deck. There is plenty to do around here as well: games, pool tables, a jukebox, and a friendly kitty that hangs around. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try a spicy pickled egg. I was also impressed by the wheelbarrow full of peanuts.

El Roy Icehouse is located at 266 Bell's Camp Rd., Trinity, TX 75862. If you get lost and need directions, their phone number is (936)594-0342. You can also view their Facebook page (to keep up with events, like live music, pot luck dinners, etc...) by clicking here.

To see more photos of El Roy Icehouse and keep up with events and info for Hville and the surrounding areas, be sure to add us (Hey, Huntsville!) on Facebook as well by clicking here: Click me!

Review: Pizza Shack (Willis, TX)

If you ever find yourself traveling from Huntsville to Houston or anywhere in-between, you should seriously consider stopping in Willis to check out Pizza Shack. It is located at 115 W Montgomery St. You just take the Willis exit, take a left over the interstate, and keep going until right before you reach Hwy 75. Pizza Shack will be on your right.

Both times I have been to Pizza Shack, I have ordered things other than pizza. I have heard great things about the pizza, but the last time I went, I couldn't resist ordering the blackened chicken penne. Most of the dishes come with a small salad, and of course, you get bread sticks.

This had 4 sticks, but my friend ate one before I could get a photo.
The prices were a little steep (my blackened chicken was about $14 & my friend's chicken alfredo was about $11), but if you arrive before 3p, you can order from the lunch menu, which is significantly cheaper - almost half the price.
Blackened Chicken with Penne Pasta
I forgot to mention that we ordered an appetizer - fried zucchini. It was your basic fried zucchini, cut into spears and fried. It came with your choice of ranch or marinara, but I didn't read that, so the default was marinara.
I will probably do without the zucchini next time. It was $5.99 and not the best fried zucchini I have ever had. More importantly, I couldn't finish my food and had to take half of it home with me.

The atmosphere is somewhat casual. I saw people with dressy clothes and people with jeans, so it's just a "come as you are" sort of place.
